McGINNES

McGinness Turquoise Mine Specimen Here is a stone from another of Nevada's many turquoise mines. The location of this mine is about 10 miles northeast of Austin . This mine was one of the better known smaller turquoise mines. First Discovered by Frank Schmidtlein about 1930.Frank called the mine the Gem Mine, he later sold it to George McGinness which named the mine The McGuinness Mine. The turquoise was mined from three zones of cherts and siliceous shales from mostly small pits but also from a cut. The material this mine produced was of a very pourus fair quality but did produce a very good grade and even some high grade.
